About Saxapahaw Cares

History

Our organization was inspired in 2019 by a group of elders interested in making “aging in place” a significant goal of our community, in order to delay or prevent costly moves to institutional settings, and enable our residents to stay in their homes, near their friends and their diverse, intergenerational community for as long as possible. Establishing a non-profit organization allows us to receive donations and access available grants to help support our activities.

Core Values

We value our diverse community, we are dedicated to caring for all of its residents, and we will actively discourage any marginalization that exists, in order to reduce isolation, improve opportunities for socialization, and promote active participation in the civic life of our community.

How we work

We work to build relationships within and around our community to hear, learn, coordinate, and meet the needs of our living and aging populations.

Saxapahaw Cares is a 501c3 non-profit with a Board of Directors arrangement to meet basic organizational needs. We also regularly invite and meet as a bigger community group for engagement and input, as we are all living and/or working in the community and rely on our connections and active roles in the community to inform the needs and direction of this organization.
